Final Designs
To combine organic texture with technical precision, I began by illustrating the subjects in Procreate before migrating the work to Adobe Illustrator. By vectorizing the hand-drawn elements, I created a versatile set of assets ready for high-resolution production, maintaining the integrity of the original artwork while optimizing it for professional printing standards.
I applied a specialized heat-foiling technique to every page to create the feel of an 'enchanted artifact.' These metallic highlights act as a visual metaphor for hidden secrets, using light and texture to pull the reader into the book’s folklore.
This project served as an intensive self-directed study into the visual history of fairies and folklore. I used the opportunity to immerse myself in an unfamiliar subject, challenging myself to research, illustrate, and curate a cohesive narrative from the ground up. The result is a comprehensive exploration that bridges the gap between folklore research and contemporary character design.
